Ghost of Mt. Rainier
Mt. Rainier National Park, Washington

I should begin by noting that this is one of my personal favorite images. When my wife-to-be and I walked out to this spot at dawn I figured that it wouldn't be a great sunrise due to the lack of at least a few clouds in the sky that I hoped for. Just pure blue sky. But the morning was calm and the view of Mt. Rainier was just perfect. In a few minutes the mountain would glow pink...so I thought. All of a sudden a wall of silent fog began rolling in from the valley below...fast! The entire landscape vanished into stillness.

Well, end of the show, but being set up I decided to just wait and see what happens. Ten or 15 minutes went by and then I noticed the fog stirring. And all of a sudden the summit of Mt. Rainier began glowing through the fog, like a ghost island. I managed four exposures before the fog dissipated and vanished...but I was excited, we were excited! And it was my birthday. When the film was developed and I could see the images, I felt very blessed. And I still do all these years later....
